Mark Rothko is an artist that emerged in the 1930s'. He used color to create emotion through his artwork. Rothko didn't want people to see his artwork as just a price tag, and would go as far as removing the work from sale if he felt the price was getting too high. 

 
Mark Rothko would be a great artist to introduce students to because of the portrayal of emotion in his paintings through the use of color. Through his work students can learn about terminology such as tint, hue, tone, shade, and other language that relates to color. Students can explore and experiment with color in general, as well as in a way that portrays an emotion of their choice.
